Taxonomic Standard

The AKVEG Database incorporates a taxonomic standard for field observation, data management, vegetation classification, and mapping in Alaska and adjacent Canada: the Checklist of Vascular Plants, Bryophytes, Lichens, and Lichenicolous Fungi of Alaska. The taxonomic standard is dynamic. We will continue to periodically update names, concepts, and relationships as additional research revises our understanding of biological diversity in Alaska and adjacent regions. To view a list of citations referenced in compiling the taxonomic standard, visit the About the Taxonomic Standard page. The taxonomic standard is also available programmatically through a connection to the AKVEG Database, which we recommend for use in analyses.
